Egon Eiermann-The strategic detail

EN

The seminar deals with the first holder of the professorship of building design, Egon Eiermann. Eiermann is considered one of the most significant architects of the post-war period in Germany and a very influential professor in his teaching activities at our faculty. His extensive oeuvre (from delicate furniture to residential, administrative, and institutional buildings) encloses multiple technological innovations developed as truly sustainable responses to climate conditions. The seminar revisits Eiermann’s architecture in relationship with the industry and the technological innovations he developed as part of a serial work. We will build collective research by re-drawing selected case studies in 2D and 3D and recreating the ‘strategic detail’ defining each piece. Students will research original documentation found in archives and chosen bibliography, in combination with field notes taken during site visits.
