Dom Nature 6 - More than a water tower

Das Masterstudio Dom Nature 6 wird eine architektonische Infrastruktur entwickeln, welche in der reichen Geschichte der Wassertürme verwurzelt ist und sich spekulativ mit einem Typus namens „More than a Water Tower“ beschäftigt.

Wasser ist eine Ressource, die in europäischen Städten oft als selbstverständlich angesehen wird. Es wird von Einzelpersonen und Kollektiven, von privaten und öffentlichen, von Institutionen und Industrien genutzt. Sein Ursprung und seine Zukunft sind jedoch von komplexen Zusammenhängen innerhalb natürlicher und infrastruktureller Systeme geprägt. Sowohl Menschen als auch Nicht Menschen brauchen Wasser, um zu streben, doch die Verwaltung dieser Ressource wird der verborgenen Rolle zentralisierter Infrastrukturen innerhalb der Stadt überlassen. Der Ausgangspunkt dieses Semesters ist die Notwendigkeit, die verschiedenen Wechselwirkungen mit Wasser in der Stadt Skopje, der Hauptstadt Nord Mazedoniens, zu speichern, zu verteilen und zu überdenken.

Wie kann die Wasserturm-Typologie durch die Erweiterung der Handlungsfelder von ihrer monofunktionalen Infrastruktur zu einem komplexen und aktiven Element innerhalb der Stadtlandschaft werden? Wie kann Architektur mit Natur, Infrastruktur und Mobilität hybridisieren, um auf möglichst breite Weise zu einem Ökosystem der Interaktion von Mensch, Tier und Pflanze zu werden?

Die individuellen Studentenarbeiten sind Teil eines kollektiven Projektes, welches Fragen aufwirft und spezifische architektonische Implikationen illustriert.

Dom Nature 6 - More than a water tower

The Master studio Dom Nature 6 will develop an architectural infrastructure rooted in the rich history of water towers and speculate on an extended type called “More than a Water Tower”. 

Water is a resource that is often taken for granted within European urban environments. It is used by individuals and collectives, by private and public, by institutions and industries. But its origin and future are shaped by complex relationships within natural and infrastructural systems. Both humans and non-human need water to strive, yet the management of this resource is left to the hidden role of centralized infrastructures within the city. The starting point of this semester is the need to store, distribute, and re-think the different interactions with water in the city of Skopje, capital of North Macedonia.

How can the water tower typology shift from its monofunctional infrastructure to an intricate and active element within the urban landscape by the expansion of its fields of action? How can architecture hybridize with nature, infrastructure, and mobility in order to become an ecosystem of humans, animals, and plants interaction in the broadest possible way?

The individual student projects will be part of a collective body of work raising questions and illustrating specific architectural implications.
